The Easy Way to Make a Club Logo Design

Are you a member of a club or association? Have you ever thought how much better your letterheads would look with your own club logo? How about a sign for your club with your logo and club name on it? Well, it is really very easy to make up your own Logo Design. It will be unique to your club too.

By using your computer and some copyright free clip art you will have a huge range of material to choose from. Here’s how to begin this exciting project.

You are going to select suitable objects from the clip art package and use these to design your Logo Design.

Choose things that relate to your club's activities. For example, cameras, tripod, and film for a photography club. Or perhaps a checked background with a few chess pieces for a chess club.

The easiest way is to open an art/graphics program - most computers come with one. This does not need to be any particular program just whatever you have available.

Have a look through the clip art. This can be the ones that come with the art/graphics program or one of the many clip art CD that are for sale. Try to use copyright free clip art, most clip art is. You will be combining various clip art objects in your final logo so there shouldn't be any copyright problems anyway.

I like to copy and paste the various clip art objects onto one page in the art program. It saves going back and forth to the clip art. Collect together suitable objects that relate to your club.

Next decide on the shape you would like the logo to be. It could be square, round, arched, even heart shaped.

Open a new page then start with the logo shape and fill it in with a suitable colour. This will depend on the colours of your other objects. If the objects are dark then a light background will be better, and if the objects are mainly light try using a darker background.

Use copy and paste to move the objects onto the page with the logo Free background. Place your objects onto the background. Re size them to suit the background if necessary.

I like to have some of them overlapping; I think it looks more interesting. When you do this select the one you want to bring to the front, then click on Arrange, then Layer, and bring forward. Your program may be a bit different but it will let you do this - use the Help menu if you need to.

If you want to include the club name, leave room for it when you are placing the objects.

To add the club’s name add a Text Box. Type in the club’s name. You can use any font you like - there is almost too much choice. Move the text box into the correct position.

You could use a banner shape from the options in the program and place the club name on it if that would suit your layout.

Once you have an arrangement you like use the Edit menu to Select All, and then Save it.

You can make several logos with different objects and different layouts. Be sure to Save the ones you like!

Print them out, and take your new logos to the club so that the club members can decide on the best one to use.

It has never been so easy to create your own logo. How about one for yourself or your family?

Add the logo to all your club stationery. Use it on your letterhead, cards, and activity programs. You could even make your own sign.

A good logo will make your club standout from the crowd.

Selecting the Logo Design Company

The most crucial aspect of logo selection is the logo concept. You must first determine what your logo should say about your company. You may come up with an image related to a business like a house for real estate or a car for a car dealer, or your logo could be just an abstract image representing the company’s philosophy, for example, a pyramid or a blocky image for a stable, trustworthy company. A very dynamic image with orbits and swooshes, sparks, or particles might be suitable for a very young, modern, high tech company. Not all businesses, though, can be easily associated with any particular image. For example, a programming company doesn't have many images to associate with (except a computer). In this situation, it would be recommended to concentrate on an abstract image and to represent the feel of the company's business rather than coming up with a specific image. Companies that deal with more than one business should have a more generic image, but the logo can still be made to look technological by implementing some straight lines in combination with curves, or more corporate with more proportional, symmetrical, geometrical shapes. As a result of the expense involved in changing a logo, a "good" Logo Design shouldn’t be too trendy, but ideally last many years before needing a redesign. You need to ask yourself if the design will be relevant in 5 or 10 years.

Once a company has established itself with a specific look, feel and image, it becomes more and more difficult to change as time goes by. Some companies have enjoyed success without ever having to change their logo design. Kentucky Fried Chicken has used Colonel Sanders in their logo since the company was founded in 1952. Aside from some updates on their marketing front, Nike would be another good example (the Nike swoosh). Pepsi took a risk in the mid 1990s by drastically changing their image and logo but did so with success. However, it could have resulted in commercial suicide. If you'll remember, in the 1980s Coca-cola changed their brand image to Coke. Pepsi then took over top seat in the market shortly thereafter. Creating a logo that can appeal to customers and consumers throughout the ages is important, considering that there will always be a risk involved with change.

If, however, you decide that your logo is in need of a face life, here are some points to take into consideration: Does your current logo represent 3 of the key elements that make up a credible and high quality logo design? a. Does the logo portray your company in a manner which says that you are an expert in this field? b. Is the logo "contemporary", symbolizing a "forward-thinking" look? c. Is the message that you are trying to convey to the consumer clear? If you answered ‘yes’ to all of these questions, then why change your logo? By revamping your company image, you may risk losing your supporters, clients that are already familiar with your products and services, your popularity, respect, as well as your market share. You can, however, clean-up your logo or update it with a lot less risk.

Tagline

When creating a tagline for your company, it is important to consider whether or not you are going to, eventually, go global. If so, create a tagline that gets your point across when translated into different languages. Here are some examples of successful companies that did not take this into consideration: a. Kentucky Fried Chicken's tagline "finger-licking' good" translates in Chinese as "eat your fingers off”. b. General Motors introduced the Chevy Nova in South America, and the company was apparently unaware that "no va,” translated in Spanish meant “it won't go,” or “it doesn’t run.” c. In Taiwan, Pepsi introduced its tagline "Come alive with the Pepsi Generation". In Chinese, the slogan translated as "Pepsi will bring your ancestors back from the dead."

Shapes, Sizes and Types

Iconic logos: Iconic logos, one of the most common types, are represented by a single graphical element, icon or design which usually includes the company name below or to the side of the icon, for example: Nike, AOL, and Michelin. When considering iconic logos, it is important to make the symbol fit any of the geometrical shapes. The best shapes to use are symmetrical geometrical shapes. They can be placed almost anywhere and still show balance and are very easy to handle. There is no obligation, however, as to the kind of shape used, you can use any free form shape you want, but you have to be very careful with the placement, so the logo doesn't look like it is falling apart. When selecting the shape, you should consider how conservative and stable your company wishes to appear.

Logo Type

Logo types consist only of the company name. A unique font or unique layout style can make a great logo, for example: Sony, Kellogg’s, Coca-Cola, and IBM.

Illustrative: An illustrative logo consists of a unique design; usually representing the company’s field of business. These logos are often very eye-catching, detailed and impressive. As a result of their detail and colors, illustrative logos are difficult to reproduce and therefore expensive.

Integrated: An integrated logo is the combination of a logo type and illustrative logo. These logos are even rarer than the illustrative logos because of their expense.

Less is more!

Everyone wants a cutting edge, high tech, ‘cool’ logo. Consider, however, that some of the most successful logos are simple, and most importantly, easy to remember. Think of Nike, McDonalds, Pepsi, Coca-Cola. These are all very successful images that are, at the same time, very simple. When creating your design, you can get into picky little details and it is important to take a step back, close your eyes and see if you can essentially sketch the image in your head. If it is that memorable, then you know you are on the right track. Remember that "less is more".

Colors

Keep in mind, when selecting colors for your logo, that your color scheme should be appropriate for your company. It is also useful to use pantone colors -universal colors which are used by professional print shops. Colors often have a profound impact on viewers. Red and orange are said to produce excitation, red also tends to signify danger. Dark blue portrays comfort and relaxation, and yellow tends to create a feeling of irritation. If you are creating a logo design for a nursing home or a hospital, it may be a good idea to stay away from reds and bright yellows. Exceptions are always made though, such as McDonalds (which has both red and yellow in its logo!). When choosing your color scheme, keep in mind the personality you wish to express for your business. Do you want your company to portray a professional image? Try using black, silver, and other dark colors. Do you want your company to come across and fun, dynamic, and funky? If so, try using bright and vibrant colors. Be creative.

Important Points To Consider:

  • A logo should: -Attract attention and leave an impression -Create a look that in unique -reflect the personality of the company
  • Reproduction costs: The more detailed and colorful the Logo Design, the more difficult to reproduce, meaning a higher cost.
  • The size: The prefect logo design will look great on a sign board as well as on a business card or a pen. • Logo design companies are by the dozen. Take your time, research different companies and designers and compare packages in order to select a logo design company suited to your needs.
  • Logo design companies are by the dozen. Take your time, research different companies and designers and compare packages in order to select a logo design company suited to your needs.
  • Check your competition. What designs, graphics, and colors do they use? Remember that you need to be competitive.
  • Trademark your logo. If your logo is trademarked, this prevents competitors and other third parties from stealing it.
  • And last but not least, when in doubt, K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple Stupid).

Logo design is believed to be one of the most difficult areas in graphic Design Tutorials. A logo is essentially at the heart of a corporate identity. It is the face of an organization! The right logo design can be one of your strongest marketing tools. It delivers the message to the public that a company is unique, credible and professional. Make it stylish. Make it elegant. How Innovative Payment Methods are Helping Online Stock Photography Grow

Online, affordable Stock Photography is a fairly new concept born in 2001. Since then, the industry has grown exponentially, and has expanded into short video, flash and animation, creating lucrative opportunities for photographers and artists around the world.

There are now a number of micro-stock photography websites, sharing royalties with their photographer and offering flexible, quick and easy payments. The industry is large and getting larger every day. Measured at $27B in 2006, the online Stock Photography market is expected to grow to $91B in 2010. While the photographers are based all over the world, the fastest growth is among photographers in Asia and Europe contributing to US-based stock photography sites. Leading sites include iStockphoto, Fotolia, Dreamtimes, Shutter stock, Stockport and Snap village.

Another advantage of the online photography sites are the communities they create for their contributors and customers, making them an even more dynamic workplace. Almost all the sites include forums, articles, featured artists and more. The social nature of the Internet supports the exchange of ideas among contributors and allowing customers to learn more about their favored photographers and artists.

While business models vary, the stock photographers usually earn small payments based on the sales of their images. Once these payments accumulate to reach a pre-determined minimum, the contributor may request payment by a number of options. Choosing the right payment method is crucial and making the wrong choice can be a costly mistake both in time and money.

Direct deposit is by far the easiest and most cost effective method available IF the photographer has a bank account in the United States. Other traditional payment methods - wire transfers and paper checks - are relatively cumbersome and expensive compared to the newer, online methods available. Check can take one week to arrive within the US, or up to four weeks for photographers living outside the US and Canada. Wire transfer fees are so high that they eat up a significant percentage of the photographer's royalties and are generally not offered as an option.

The introduction of innovative payment methods has meant that contributors can receive their money more quickly and keep more of it. For example, online payments offer more flexibility and are more cost-effective for international photographers and US-based photographers who do not have bank accounts. These methods generally offer an online account or "wallet" where money can be deposited and spent. This is an excellent option for Stock Photography who may have a lot of online expenses and generally spend their earnings with participating suppliers. However, cashing out payments from online wallets can be complicated and can become as cumbersome as using the traditional payment methods.

The funds are transferred to the card accounts, and are accessible instantly online, at shops and restaurants or at ATMs.

Regardless of the payment method selected, online stock photography sites offer professional and talented hobbyist photographers and artists both a market place and a community.

How do you define a Good Logo Design?

Everyone wants his company logo to be the best but how good is good? How do we define a good logo? Is it necessary to be colorful or an exquisite piece of art? Can a simple design work as a good logo? We are often in a dilemma.

Now to define a good Logo Design we first need to understand the purpose of having a logo. A corporate logo is one of the most essential branding elements for your company. It should be instrumental in building your corporate identity and should successfully exude the company’s attitude. The viewers must have some idea about the disposition, character, or fundamental values of your company through your logo. The functionality of a logo does not end here; I have not yet mentioned the most important function of a corporate logo. Your logo should be able to build a positive, strong and long lasting impression on existing and prospective customers. The very moment a person views your logo, even a part of it, he should think of your company.

Just think of some of the all time great logos, McDonalds’, IBM, Nike— the moment you see their logos, even if you see a part of it or may be in Black and White (there comes another important aspect!) are you able to think of anything else than the respective company? The answer is definitely NO! The first thing that comes to your mind is the name of the company. This shows how strong an impression their logo leaves in our mind. Isn’t that, what all of us are looking for?

How do you get your logo to leave such a strong long lasting impression? The key to this question is to make it easy to remember. Companies often make the mistake of thinking that a complicated artistic Design Tutorials might work well for them, while the reverse is true, in most cases. The simpler your logo is, the easier it is to remember and so it leaves a stronger impression on the people.

You also need to think of all the possible mediums where you are going to use your logo. You are not going to use your logo in only one medium, you might use it on your business cards and stationery, you might use it in your website, you might also use it in the conventional media like newspaper classifieds and magazines. This is why it is most important to inform your logo designers about the possible mediums where you are going to use your logo. You should also check if your logo looks good in Black and White, because tomorrow if you need to get a document in black and white with your logo on it, it should be very easily compatible to that as well.

In the beginning of this article, I have mentioned, that your logo can successfully convey the character and nature of your business to its viewers. How do we do that? There are a host of factors that are considered before designing a logo. When you place an order for a logo design, as a client it is your responsibility to give a clear brief of your company profile, the industry you are in and the nature of logo that you are looking for, to the designers. If you are not sure about the nature of logo that suits your company, let the Logo Design firm decide on that. There are many logo design companies who are experienced and they will be much better equipped to suggest you the correct type of logos. Any good logo design firm would conduct a market research about the different types of logos used in your industry by your competitors and their impact on the people. Based on that they will deliver you a set of logos from which you can choose any one and then they will customize that to your perfection.

If you have any corporate colors, as we have red for McDonalds’, it will be wise to suggest the designers to use that color in your logo-any good designer would anyhow do that.

One last word, as with any other industry, it is definitely beneficial to buy professional service than to go for any amateur designs just to save a few dollars. You might be the best in your industry but they know their job better than you, so if you want to get a good result, try to depend on your logo design company. I do understand that there are certain logo design companies that charge exorbitant rate to create a Logo Design but the industry is changing. These days there are companies that offer excellent logos for nominal charges. So before you decide to place your order for your logo design, check the portfolio of the company and then check the price tag. You can definitely find some professional logo designs at affordable rates.

Edit Your Photos with Adobe Photoshop Tutorials Simple

Do you love photography so much but you just can't seem to produce great looking photos? Do you want your amateur looking photos to look like it was taken by professional photographers? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you will need the Adobe Photoshop.

First of all, you need to remember that most professional photographers today use Adobe Photoshop to edit the digital photos they take. You need to remember that not every photo they take is perfect and some will have the common mistakes in Stock Photography, such as the red-eye phenomenon, finger over the lens syndrome and even the hand shake syndrome. Poor exposure is another enemy of photographers.

Whatever it is, professional photographers are able to fix these mistakes by just using Adobe Photoshop. In fact, some professional photographers even edit the photos they take of models with Adobe Photoshop Brushes. If you read magazines, and you noticed the near-perfect bodies of models and very smooth skin, then you have an idea on how professional photographers manipulate the photos they take with Adobe Photoshop. For example, if you take pictures of someone who has an ugly looking zit on their face, then you will be able to make their face look perfect by removing the zit or pimple with Adobe Photoshop. In fact, you can even use Adobe Photoshop to make someone fat look like a supermodel.

Here are some of the basic ways on how you can make the photos you take look more professional.

The first is by eliminating the red eye from the photos. You need to remember that even if you are using the latest SLR digital camera with red eye reduction, it will still happen. Adobe Photoshop has red eye tool that will identify and completely remove the appearance of the red eye from the photos you take. It will even remove the red eyes from your pet cat or dog.

Secondly, you will be able to create brighter and clearer photos with more vibrant colors. Adobe Photoshop is meant to be a tool to help clean up an image as well as improve its appearance. With the color enhancing tools and adjust brightness and contrast tools, you will be able to turn dark photos in to something that looks like it was taken in perfect lighting condition. Basically, the tool will allow you to manually adjust the image's color settings that will result in the sharpest and cleanest appearance of the image as possible.

Another great editing feature of Adobe Photoshop is that it will even allow you to remove unwanted objects in the photos you already took. For example, if a seemingly perfect photo was just ruined by a trash can on the background, you can easily remove the trash can and replace it with something else as if the trash can wasn’t even there at all when you took the picture. You can even crop out people from the photos you take and even replace the Free Background.

These are just some of the great things that you can do with Adobe Photoshop. As you can see, even an amateur photographer like you will be able to take professional looking pictures. With the help of Adobe Photoshop, you will be able to make your photos look as if it was taken by a professional photographer.

A Logo Isn't A Tattoo!

As a business owner, one of the most important business decisions you'll make is choosing the design of your logo. Whether you design the logo yourself or hire a designer, you'll have to make some decisions during the design process.

But you want to make sure that the logo you decide on will work well. Many business owners make the mistake of basing their logo choices on their personal preferences. But your 'likes' should have very little to do with your Logo Design.

Before I go into why this is the case, let me tell you a story of the most difficult logo designs that I ever did. This logo was for an entrepreneur who was running a very small spa.

Now, this project didn't start out difficult. I'd done several logos for spas in the past and during the course of those projects I had learned a lot about the industry. The business also had a good, solid brand definition, and the business owner had filled out my branding worksheet thoroughly. So I thought that the project would go smoothly and that I'd create a fabulous logo for her in no time.

I designed her first round of the logo to reflect the brand that she'd been setting up for herself. But, when she got the initial designs, I got an almost immediate call back — she hated them! We talked a bit about her brand, her clients and their tastes, and all of the things that I take into consideration when designing a brand. And we talked about how the sketches reflected those considerations. But then the real problem came out — she actually had a bigger vision for her logo.

She wanted to have the final logo tattooed onto her hip!

She wasn't just looking at the business effectiveness of this logo — she wanted a sexy personal symbol! This was a whole different challenge.

She was set on designing a 'tattoo' logo, even though I didn't recommend it. We wound up taking a whole different approach to the project and we did come up with a logo that she loves. Luckily her clients still react well to the finished logo, so it works for her business. But if you design your logo from your personal perspective, instead of taking your clients' viewpoints in mind, you might be setting yourself up for disaster.

So, what's the best way to decide on your Logo Design?

First, define your business' brand. Your Brand Definition will guide the design of all of your brand identity materials, starting with your logo. The most important things to determine before designing your logo will be:

Who You Are, your business' mission, vision and purpose.

What You Do, the products and services that you deliver.

Who You Can Best Help, or your target audience.

For more information how to create your Brand Definition, you can download my "Define Your Difference" Branding Worksheet.

Then boil your full Brand Definition down to the most essential elements. Logos are small. Creating a clean and straightforward logo is essential to making sure that it communicates well. Most Brand Definitions are complex. Trying to pack too many details into a logo can create a muddled mess. You want to make sure that you narrow yours down to the few most important characteristics. That will enable you to create a concise, focused logo design that will tell your business' story clearly.

Keep your Brand Definition in mind as you design your logo. Weigh your designs against the characteristics you've chosen. Think about every choice you make and how it affects your logo's icon, font choice and color scheme. The most important piece of the Brand Definition in this step is "Who You Can Best Help". Your logo has to connect with your clients. The design and overall feel of the logo has to communicate to them. Their perspective is the most important. If you're targeting clients who are similar to you, then it might be okay to Design Tutorials the logo for yourself, but often that's not the case. Be sure you're designing for them and not just for you. You may even ask some of your clients about your logo options to make sure that the final logo works for them.

Going through this process doesn't always result in a logo you'll love. For example I don't love my logo. But it communicates what I do — creating designs that help small businesses stand out from the competition. And my clients get the message (or a message that's close enough and still works!). They like my logo so it does its job. of course, I never wanted to get it tattooed on myself!

Logo Design Creation Process from Start to Finish by Expert Graphic Designer

We are very excited for share our site Please visit her Your Design Needs to see more of her amazing work. Many of you will find that she is a graphic designer that is very talented and experienced. She wrote this article to guide you through her own creative Logo Design process, from start to finish. Please feel free to contact us if you want to submit your article as well.

There are times when creating a logo can seem overwhelming. But in an industry where efficiency is key, I’ve learned a few tricks that help me to create logos that are effective, meet my clients’ objectives, and are portfolio pieces that I feel proud of. What better way to walk you through my process than by using a client case study?

Step 1: Getting to Know Your Client

When I first started working on kick’s logo development, the first thing I did was research. Because the logo is one of the single most important visual elements for a business, it is imperative that plenty of discussion is done. I always ask the same four questions:

  1. What are the values of your business/company?
  2. Can I see any current/previous marketing materials you have?
  3. Who is your target audience?
  4. Do you have any bits of inspiration for me to work from? In other words, paint swatches of colors you like or are currently using? Stock Photography of your business or products? How about patterns/images those really identify with your business?

Kick responded as follows: “We are a chic women’s boutique with a throw-back glam décor. We are located in a progressive and growing downtown area… We aim for the distinguished in tasted and in style. A woman who wants a stylish shoe that won’t hinder her daily activities; whether it be work or leisure… We have bright pink paint on our walls and we also like gold and black.”

At this time, kick also provided me with several pieces of artwork that really spoke to them and identified with their business. So now I had all the info I needed… What next?

Step 2: Generate Imagery

One of the biggest mistakes a designer can make, I’ve found, is to go straight to the computer and start plugging away at logo designs. Sure you may be feeling inspired after a chat with your client, but without really thinking, you’ll just be wasting time. Whether you’re stumped or you already have a few ideas floating around, this step has helped me out time and time again.

Sit down, grab some paper and a pen, and make a list. Title it anything you like, but the list should contain words that pertain to your client. For example, in kick’s case, I think of words like shoe, fashion, girl, woman, feminine, vintage, etc. You want to do this quickly and be sure to write down anything that pops into your head. By jotting down this list (whether they be nouns or adjectives), you’ll begin the process of generating visuals. These visuals can produce some pretty amazing Logo Design. Take a look at my list for kick below.

Splitting a Brand Design Project between Two Design Firms

I'm often asked if I could just do either the print side or the website side of a brand design project. And while that's certainly possible, I don't recommend it.

Splitting a branding project typically results in a lack of consistency between pieces in your marketing kit. All of your brand materials should have similar design elements. When a project is split among different design firms, often those firms don't have a similar style, and you can wind up with print collateral, for example, that looks dramatically different from your website. In this case, when potential customers receive your business card and then go to your website, it might take them a moment to realize that they're in the right place... and that moment can affect the level of trust that you build with them. Since trust is one of the most important factors in the buyer/seller relationship, breaking this trust can have a poor effect on your sales.

Projects are typically split up for a few reasons:

Lack of full-service Design Training capabilities. If the firm you choose has strengths primarily in just print design or just web design, then that firm will probably not be the best choice to execute both projects. Many firms do offer both print and web services these days, though, so you might look around for a firm that can fill both needs.

Short timeline. If you're looking to launch your business or product quickly, you might find that one firm can't offer you the turnaround time that you need to get to market fast. If this is the case, and you split the project in half so that the halves can be developed simultaneously, you might actually harm your brand: there will be no opportunity to create consistent graphics between the two projects. You might have better results if you design a minimum number of materials and a shorter, less complicated website for the launch, and then continue to expand your suite of materials after your company or product is up and running.

Lack of budget. Developing a full brand collateral suite can be an expensive undertaking. However, you're often better served by having fewer materials that are consistent and of a high quality than having more materials that have been pieced out to different firms at a lower initial cost. Good, matching marketing materials will add a lot to your credibility and should last quite some time; great materials can last for the life of your business!

Hesitancy to decide between firms. If you've requested proposals from several firms, and you really want to work with each of them because they're all so great, resist that temptation. This strategy won't have the best result for your brand, and your brand is one of the most important tools in your business's toolkit.

If you must split the project between two firms, you can get a better result if you insist on:

Communication between the two firms. If the two firms both talk about your Brand Foundation, then that ensure that your marketing pieces will all be on track in terms of their design's messages about who you are, what you do, and what makes you different.

The creation and use of a Visual Vocabulary and Brand Rules document. Make sure that one firm—typically the one that designs your logo—also will create and deliver a Visual Vocabulary and Brand Rules tailored to your business. These two elements are not always a guaranteed deliverable, so you might have to request that they be created. Your Visual Vocabulary is made up of all of the graphics that supplement your Logo Design to form the graphic "face" of your business and anchor your brand identity. This can include design elements such as:

  • Font styles
  • Colors
  • Shapes
  • Layout conventions
  • Backgrounds
  • Photographs
  • Special textual treatments
  • Paper type

Your Brand Rules document will detail the use of each of these elements, as well as the specifics of your logo and the "do's" and "don'ts" that surround the use of your Logo Design.

Completion of the logo, Visual Vocabulary, and Brand Rules before the rest of the project begins. Or, you can have one of the final design deliverables—or sets of deliverables—completed before the design on the next one begins, and have the next one designed to match.

See if the two firms will collaborate on the two projects. If the two firms are agreeable to it, and your budget allows for a few extra hours, have the two firms meet to offer feedback and suggestions to each other on their designs. Some firms might not agree to this, though.

Splitting up a project haphazardly can be detrimental to your Logo Design, but if you find that it's necessary, and you manage the process carefully, you can still create a strong brand that will create beneficial bottom-line results for your business.

Four More Brand Identity Myths

Having a brand identity is extremely important to your business's success. However, many business owners have misconceptions about brand identities that can damage their businesses.

In our last Branding Myths article, we talked about three of the top misconceptions that small business people have about creating their brand identities. Here, we'll discuss four more myths.

"Brand identity" is the result of the combination of consistent visual elements that are used in your marketing materials. A basic brand identity consists of a Logo Design, business card, letterhead, and envelope. It can be extended to include a website, brochure, folder, flyer, or any other professionally designed pieces.

I'm not a big company: I can't have/create/build a brand

Just because your company's not huge doesn't mean that you can't benefit from creating a brand identity. Even for the smallest company, a brand identity will make you look bigger than you are, will make you appear more professional, and will make your sales process easier. You'll also have a starting point for designing all of your marketing pieces, and your brand identity will make your marketing a breeze as well.

You might not be able to create a branding program that is as comprehensive and self-sustaining as those of some of the big companies, because you won't be able to educate your clients like they can. Big companies with immediately recognizable Logo Design Training and brand materials have made those logos and materials recognizable by spending a lot of time, money, and effort on educating the public about their brands. This is mainly done through advertising.

But this isn't to say that you should jump out there once you have built a brand and start advertising; for many small businesses, advertising is expensive and doesn't offer a good return on investment.

I run my business in a personalized, one-on-one way: building a brand would make my business impersonal

Building a brand identity isn't necessarily a depersonalizing tactic. You can build a brand that's very personalized, and even centered on you and the way that you work with your clients. You can even use the personalized way that you run your business as a differentiation tool. That personalization can be one of the pieces of your business that makes you different.

Some major brands are built with this personalization. For example, Mrs. Field's Cookies is built all around her story, techniques, and recipes.

Having a brand identity shouldn't change the way that your business works. There might be some slight changes when you start working on the inner layers of your brand, but brand identity just changes the face of your business to the public, making it look cleaner and more organized and professional. You can even design your brand identity to look personalized by using a signature, initials, or even your photo in your logo or Visual Vocabulary.

Creating a brand is too much work

There is a lot of work involved in creating a brand identity and then creating the rest of the brand to match it. But it's all part of the overall work that you should do when you begin your business: determining your differentiators, creating your brand foundation and creating some of your brand basics, and positioning your brand.

Doing this work will give your business a clear path, and will make all aspects of your business easier. You will have the groundwork for your business laid out, and you'll be able to build on that groundwork to create success.

Beyond this groundwork, you shouldn't have to do much work; if you pick a good Design Tutorials, you should be able to take more of an advisory role. Beyond answering some initial questions about your business and brand, you should be able to sit back and make the choices between options presented to you by that hired specialist, throughout the development of your logo and brand identity.

Your level of involvement in the design process will also vary depending on the amount of personalization that you have in your business. If you're running a very personalized business, then you will probably want to guide the design process closely, since in a personalized business your logo should reflect your tastes and style. If you're building a bigger business, then the style of your logo should reflect the industry and what's best for your business; often, a designer will guide those choices.

I can't use a symbol that's been used before: I have to be entirely unique

By using a variation of a symbol that's been used before, you're leveraging the recognition and meaning that the symbol already has. This is often the best course of action for small businesses, because you won't have a large budget to spend on educating your audience on the meaning of a new symbol.

What should be unique about your brand identity is the way that you use these symbols. You can develop new combinations of symbols to communicate your message. or you can arrange the symbols in a different way, or use them in place of letters in your Logo Design to make it more unique.

Another way that you can make your symbols unique is to draw those using different techniques or effects, such as calligraphy or paint strokes, or using different proportions. These techniques make your symbols unique and interesting, and can also communicate more of your brand's personality.
